The Flex-O-Mix agglomerator was specially designed for wet agglomeration with its vertical mixing chamber and self-cleaning wall. This device combines an atomized liquid with a powder, to produce soluble granules in the 0.2 to 1 mm size range.

MS SERIES ROLL BRIQUETTERSBepex® offers this wet agglomeration approach to producing granules when dispersion and solubility are the major concerns. By the accurate introduction of powders and liquid solutions into a specially designed mixing chamber, low to medium density agglomerates with good dispersibility are produced. Bepex® offers complete agglomeration systems for producing granules, with proven agglomerating devices followed by fluid dryer bed conditioning, and optional screening and recycle.

In the agglomeration system drawing on the right, one feeder feeds a preblended mixture of fresh powder into the agglomerator; another feeder feeds recycled fines, while a liquid dosing system mixes the liquid binder solution and feeds it to the agglomerator. The powders and liquids are mixed and agglomerated in the agglomerator, and then dropped into the fluid bed dryer for drying and conditioning. Following the fluid bed dryer is a screener to separate the product into oversize (which will be ground and recycled to the screener inlet), on size product, and undersize (which will be recycled to the agglomerator feed).

The Schugi® Flex-O-Mix® wet agglomeration system is specifically designed to avoid the material buildup that often occurs when forming large particles from fine powders. Unlike conventional processing equipment, the Flex-O-Mix® features a continuously deforming mixing chamber that keeps wetted particles from adhering to equipment walls. In addition to preventing clogging, this action inhibits particulate over densification while yielding a more uniform particle with more consistent density, cohesiveness and solubility.

One or more powders are fed through the top of the agglomeration unit and pass through the unit by gravity, in a continuous stream. The liquids are injected via spray nozzles placed around the top of the cylindrical mixing chamber. The liquid spray is generally atomized using compressed air. The circumferential arrangement of the spray nozzles permits simultaneous injection of up to four different liquid streams.

Instant mixing and short retention time (1-2 seconds) make high production rates possible from small machines. The mixing chamber and rotor are easily accessible for sanitary clean up.

System 1

Extrud-O-Mix System 1

In the system pictured above the Flex-O-Mix® is being fed by two separate powder feeders and one liquid dosing system. The Flex-O-Mix® mixes these ingredients and agglomerates them, forming a wet granular product. The granules fall directly into a Fluid Bed dryer, where they are dried and conditioned. The dried product can then be screened to size. Oversize and undersize can be recycled through the system.

System 2

Extrud-O-Mix System 2

In the system pictured above several different powder feeds are being metered into the Flex-O-Mix®, along with two separate liquid streams. In this situation the system operation is the same as the other system pictured, but more feed ingredients are present. The Flex-O-Mix® showcases it's ability to blend multiple feed streams into a homogenous product.
