The new Twin Rotor Hydramix from Bepex® gently mixes and hydrates a wide variety of dry or sticky materials in a continuous flow without clogging. The new self-cleaning design features close tolerances between the rotor paddles and the container walls to reduce material buildup. This increases productivity and reduces maintenance.
In hydration applications, liquid is injected through nozzles located near the feed inlet to promote thorough mixing. Injection nozzles can also be located along the length of the unit to provide liquid addition during stages in the mixing. The unit is jacketed and the rotors can be heated to promote reactions or to prevent sticking. In hydration applications that are exothermic, the rotors can also be cooled to remove excess heat.
The mixing speed and paddle angle can be adjusted separately to vary the amount of mixing energy imparted to the material independently from conveyance speed. With rotors that operate at only about 10 rpm, the Hydramix features low-shear operation to provide excellent mixing while preventing particle damage even during residence times of 20-30 minutes.
